Our goal is to make our surgeries as safe and comfortable as possible.  Here's how:

Advanced Patient Monitoring

All sedated or anesthetized patients are continuously monitored using state of the art equipment including 2 complete Life-windows monitoring consoles and a Philips multi-channel anesthetic monitoring system. While anesthetized, our patients are monitored by our trained technical staff who have no duties other than anesthetic monitoring while your pet is sleeping.  We utilize intensive monitoring systems including pulse oximetry, side-stream end tidal carbon dioxide monitoring, non- invasive blood pressure monitoring, continuous ECG, anesthetic gas monitoring, pulse monitoring, esophageal probe ECG, esophageal stethoscope monitoring, intravenous fluid monitoring, body temperature monitoring, and body temperature support with warm air and heated water blankets.

Anesthesia Safety

Our hospital administers very short acting anesthetics for induction and general anesthesia that are safe at all ages, and with most conditions.  Patients are intubated and provided with IV fluid support while anesthetized. Anesthesia is induced with Propofol,  maintained with Sevoflurane gas anesthetic and supplemented with 100% oxygen.  Other agents are sometimes used in light of specific medical conditions. The net effect of using these agents  will typically ensure a smooth and rapid anesthetic recovery for your pet after surgery.

Pain Management Plan

All surgical patients are treated with opioids (morphine type drugs that allow for excellent pain control and sedation), and/or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are specifically manufactured for use in dogs and cats. Tranquilizers are also administered as needed to help your pet relax while recovering from surgery.
